WEEE and electronic recycling |
On consumer goods it exist a recycle system where the consumer can "free of charge" dump there electronic waste or EEE (electric- and electronic equipments). The WEEE directive demands manufacturers that set products to the market to report sales statistics to the authorities. In Sweden its Swedish Environmental Protection Agency-Naturvårdsverket that handles this directive. El-Kretsen is one organisation that handles WEEE logistics and the insurance.
Polyamp is outside of the scope of the WEEE directive, however we are affected by the product responsibility laws. It permits our customer to send an old used similar product (do not need to be Polyamp brand) when they purchase a new similar grade product. In practical sense Swedish companies has to use certified electronic recycling companies, when throwing away electric or electronic products.
A Polyamp DC/DC converter have a practical life expectancy of 20 years and in theory we could refurbish old converters and give them maybe another 5-10 years more. However we will then be against the EMC directive that stipulate that a renovated unit has to meet the EMC directive. Its however aloud to repair a unit. The EMC directive become effective 1996 so there are some years left before we are alound to renovate our converters. If you are interested please contact us. |
