Environment and electronics is a popular combination. We describe the latest regarding the directives.

Conflict Minerals

According to the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform & Consumer Protection Act of 2010, US companies listed on the stock market must report the content and avoidance of so called Conflict Minerals in their products. Polyamp is, by this definition, not directly affected; however, as a downstream sub-supplier in the supplier chain we have such a reporting responsibility.

RoHS and lead free soldering

The RoHS directive is today a well-known limit on the use of certain materials in electronic products. The central issue is lead-free soldering. Long before the RoHS directive implementation date, Polyamp was using what are called RoHS components and circuit boards.

The RoHS directive is again getting alot of attention as it is revised and called RoHS-2. Click on Read More below for detailed information on the new directive.

All our standard products are RoHS-2 compatible.

We still have, however, a lead solder line mainly open for customers in the defense sector.

Do REACH and SVHC affect Polyamp?

REACH is a directive controlling the use of chemicals within the EU since 2008.
Polyamp is not regarded as a producer of any chemical and has therefore not pre-registered anything in regards to REACH. We have gone through all our safety datasheets and communicated with our suppliers.

SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) are substances for which EC wants restriction of use or removal from the market. The  ECHA publishes the SVHC substances list regularly. Manufacturers need to analyze each update to be able to report the use and content of those SVHC substances in their products.

Does the EUP directive concern us?

The Eco design Directive 2009/125/EC is a frame directive that sets mandatory requirements on Eco-design for ErP (Energy related Products). According to the directive, a manufacturer is not impacted until an implementing measure is published affecting their product group. At that time, those Eco-design criteria become the basis for CE-marking and energy marking. EU product analyses are run to judge which products need Eco-design criteria. Currently, energy efficiency is the focus.  Large savings in energy can be achieved using state of the art technology in many sectors of the industry.

WEEE and electronic recycling

The WEEE directive governs recycling for consumer goods. Using WEEE, the consumer can "free of charge" dispose of their electronic waste or EEE (electric  and electronic equipment). The WEEE directive requires manufacturers with products on the market to report sales statistics to the authorities.
In Sweden, it is the  Swedish Environmental Protection Agency-Naturvårdsverket that governs this directive. El-Kretsen is one organisation that handles WEEE logistics and the insurance related to it. They also handles the related battery directive.
